Solution Suggestions

 Hello delegates,

Seeing as most of you have finished your position papers, it’s time to start thinking about solutions for committee!

As a reminder from the topic synopsis, the dais formulated 3 focus areas for this committee. Plastic production, wildlife conservation, and supply chain disruption are 3 areas that you are able to, but not limited to, explore for your innovative solution.

Plastic Production

For this topic, there are several types of solutions you can create. If you create a plastic alternative, I would recommend having scientific research and past precedent to support your innovative solution. You can create a circular economy model, where people reuse plastics somehow. If this is the type of solution you’re aiming for, I would be extremely clear about your target audience, where exactly you plan to implement this solution, and how this could potentially be implemented internationally.

Wildlife Conservation

Your solutions don’t necessarily have to relate to plastic at all! Animals and wildlife have been extremely affected during the pandemic. One type of solution to consider is a business model that creates alternative jobs for poachers. For solutions like this, I would be specific about how exactly you plan to incentivize poachers to join this model/idea. I would also like to see delegates consider exactly where they want to implement this idea, as poaching occurs in specific areas of the world. While you can focus on animals impacted during the pandemic, you can also think past COVID-19 and sustainability in the long term!

Supply Chain Disruption

A supply chain may seem daunting because many of you don’t learn about this extensively in high school. However, I am willing to bet that most of you interact with a supply chain on a daily basis. Have you ever tried to buy a popular item from a grocery store, only to see that they have sold out for the day/week? That is a result of supply chain issues. Many companies transport their goods from a remote location via boat, plane, or truck. Can you imagine a business solution that could minimize transportation costs and carbon emissions? Who would be your customers for this business model? A great solution will consider what types of companies you can implement your idea in (tech companies, grocery stores, retail companies, etc.).

I hope this was helpful to get you to think of what types of solutions you can propose. To reiterate, every delegate will have the opportunity to propose their own solution to committee before meeting in an unmoderated caucus to discuss how you can combine, add, or abandon different business ideas. Good luck to you all, and as always feel free to reach out! The committee email is bvcbmunlxx@bmun.org, and my individual email is cwherritt@bmun.org

Warmly,
